политТрадиция добровольного отказа от переизбрания на третий срок, начало которой было положено президентом Дж. Вашингтоном [ Washington, George]. Соблюдалась вплоть до 1942, когда президент Ф. Д. Рузвельт [ Roosevelt, Franklin Delano (FDR)] дал согласие баллотироваться на третий, а в 1944 и на четвертый срок и в обоих случаях одержал победу. В феврале 1951 была принята Двадцать вторая поправка [ Twenty-second Amendment] к Конституции США, которая официально ограничила срок пребывания президента в Белом доме [ White House] двумя четырехлетними сроками. Полным четырехлетним сроком считается, согласно этой поправке, и замещение в течение более двух лет скончавшегося или ушедшего в отставку президента. Президент Г.
